No TV for almost 8 years now...

It started out as an idea, a kind of challenge. Mike & I were determined to live the "Abundant Life," and decided to give up TV for 6 months in 2002 to see what hobbies we could develop during the new-found time. Can you believe we have been a household of no TV for 8 (Eight!!!) years? Most think we are OFF OUR NUT, but we have found lots of other things to do (rather than to watch other people's lives). Blaine has never had TV in his home his whole life.  Our family has built a tree fort and a potting shed, learned Mandarin Chinese, become better cooks, read MANY books, taught ourselves about herbs and gardening, and just TALKED to each other because there was no tube to view!  I encourage everyone to join the challenge for at least a week.

Here are some surefire conversation starters to try when family members "are Bored." --Ask fun questions, like:

1. Would you rather... Be too hot, or too cold?...Go without the sense of smell or the sense of taste?... ... the possibilities are endless
2. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be?... what would you talk about wth this person? 3. Name the most important qualities a friend should have.... what about a Teacher? ...a Parent... a Kid?
4. What 3 things made you Laugh today?
5. Describe what you think the world will be like in 50 years....what about 1,000 years?

  1. Thanks for your nice comment over on my blog, Dawn! I appreciate both your prayers and kindness, a bunch! =0)

    Have you tried 'picnik.com' yet?

Also, thanks for your blog post above. We just did a lesson on fasting in our small group and with 3 pregnant women, we discussed good things to fast from, other than food, and TV was one of them. I can totally see how our family could benefit from this. I'll admit, I wonder if I could do it, which probably means I should.

I'm praying for you today, too. Have a blessed day!
